Old-Fashioned Fruit Dressing Recipe
This creamy and citrusy dressing has a nostalgic feel. It is equally sweet and tangy and tastes great with fresh fruit or desserts including angel food cake. Fresh citrus fruit dressing is a wonderful addition to a vintage recipe.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons grated orange rind.
- 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind.
- Juice of 1 orange.
- Juice of 1 lemon.
- 1 egg, beaten.
- Dash of salt.
- ½ cup sugar.
- ¼ cup sour cream.
Instructions
- Combine the juice of one orange and one lemon, along with their rinds. Measure; if total volume is less than ½ cup, add water to reach ½ cup.
- Cook Base: Combine the juices, beaten egg, salt and sugar in a small saucepan. Stir continuously and bring to a boil over medium heat.
- After cooking, take off the stove and allow to cool. Then chill in the refrigerator.
- Finish Dressing: When ready to serve, gently fold in sour cream until fully combined.
